About the Author

Derya Kaplan is a distinguished Turkish author and migration scholar whose work delves into the intricate dynamics of human movement and cultural adaptation. Born in the Netherlands to Turkish immigrant parents, Kaplan's personal experiences with diaspora life profoundly shape her narratives, blending memoir-like introspection with rigorous socio-political analysis. Her debut book, 'Hollanda'dan Türkiye'ye Beyin Göçü,' chronicles the reverse brain drain from the Netherlands to Turkey, exploring themes of identity, belonging, and the pull of ancestral roots in an increasingly globalized world. With a background in sociology and anthropology, Kaplan's writing bridges academic insight and accessible storytelling, offering readers a nuanced perspective on the challenges and triumphs of transnational lives. She currently resides in Istanbul, where she continues to research and write about migration's impact on contemporary societies.
