Dan Lungu

About the Author

Dan Lungu is a prominent Romanian author, essayist, and sociologist whose works deftly explore the absurdities and lingering echoes of communism in post-1989 Eastern Europe. Born in 1969 in Iași, he studied sociology at Alexandru Ioan Cuza University before turning to literature, blending sharp social observation with wry humor to dissect the human condition under ideological pressures. Lungu's narrative voice often captures the voices of ordinary people navigating the transition to democracy, revealing the ironies of memory, identity, and adaptation. His acclaimed novel 'I'm An Old Commie! (Romanian Literature)' exemplifies this approach, earning international praise for its poignant portrayal of a retiree's nostalgic yet conflicted reminiscences of the old regime. Through his writing, Lungu bridges personal stories with broader historical reflections, making him a vital voice in contemporary Romanian literature.
