Daguan Zhou, a 13th-century Chinese diplomat and scholar, is renowned for his meticulous observations of foreign lands during the Yuan Dynasty. Born in what is now Guangxi province, he served as an envoy to the Khmer Empire in 1296-1297, where he documented the customs, geography, and daily life of Cambodia with remarkable detail and cultural sensitivity. His work stands as one of the earliest and most vivid accounts by a Chinese traveler of Southeast Asia, offering invaluable insights into the Angkorian civilization at its zenith.
