About the Author

Aurora Mardiganian, born in 1901 in modern-day Turkey, was a young Armenian girl whose life was upended by the Armenian Genocide during World War I. At just 14, she endured unimaginable horrors, including the loss of her family and a harrowing journey of captivity and escape that spanned the Ottoman Empire. Her extraordinary survival story became the basis for her 1918 memoir, Ravished Armenia, which she dictated to American journalist Henry Baronian after reaching safety in the United States. The book, later adapted into the silent film 'Auction of Souls,' brought global attention to the plight of Armenian survivors and remains a poignant testament to resilience amid atrocity. Mardiganian spent her later years in Los Angeles, advocating for her people until her death in 1994, leaving behind a legacy of courage and truth-telling.
