Anne Noggle was a pioneering historian, photographer, and former pilot whose extraordinary life bridged the worlds of aviation, academia, and storytelling. Born in 1922, she served as a Women Airforce Service Pilot (WASP) during World War II, ferrying aircraft across the United States and honing her skills in the skies. After the war, Noggle pursued a career in education, eventually becoming a professor of art history at the University of New Mexico, where she founded the University Art Museum. Her passion for untold stories led her to document the lives of Soviet women pilots through daring interviews and evocative photography, culminating in her acclaimed book A Dance with Death: Soviet Airwomen in World War II. Noggle's work illuminated the courage of female aviators in the face of adversity, blending personal memoir with meticulous historical research. She passed away in 2005, leaving a legacy of empowering narratives that celebrate women's contributions to history.
