About the Author

Al-Jahiz, born Abu Uthman Amr ibn Bahr in Basra around 776 CE, was a pioneering Arab polymath, scholar, and one of the earliest masters of Arabic prose literature during the Islamic Golden Age. Renowned for his insatiable curiosity and encyclopedic knowledge, he delved into diverse fields including zoology, theology, grammar, and sociology, often blending humor, anecdote, and rigorous observation in his writings. As a devout Mu'tazilite, his works reflect a commitment to rational inquiry and cultural critique, challenging prevailing biases and celebrating intellectual diversity.
