Abelard & Heloise

About the Author

Abelard and Heloise, the legendary 12th-century philosopher and scholar and his brilliant student-turned-lover, remain one of history's most poignant intellectual and romantic pairs. Their correspondence, born from a forbidden passion that led to tragedy and separation, offers profound insights into medieval theology, ethics, and the human heart. Exiled to a convent, Heloise's eloquent letters reveal a mind as sharp as Abelard's, challenging conventions and exploring love's enduring power. Together, their writings bridge philosophy and poetry, influencing generations with their raw honesty and intellectual depth. This collection, The Letters and Other Writings: Selected Songs and Poems (Hackett Classics), captures their timeless voices, blending scholarly rigor with emotional intensity.
