In the spring of 1956, prisoners including Li Changxiang toiled on the harsh Kunlun snow mountains to construct the new highway from Yecheng in southern Xinjiang to Tibet, watched closely by soldiers.
Li Changxiang's conviction stemmed from possessing a Zhongzheng sword awarded by Song Meiling for his severe wounds sustained fighting Japanese forces on the 813 Battle of Shanghai field during the抗日 War.
His life was marked by tragedy and brevity, cut short amid profound hardship.
Over half a century later, his second son Hai Kuan, approaching old age, undertakes the arduous journey up Kunlun Mountain to pay respects to his deceased father.
