About This Book
This volume unites Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's three-part account of the Soviet prison system with George Orwell's novel 1984.
Solzhenitsyn draws on personal experience and extensive testimony to document the operation of the Gulag from 1918 onward.
Orwell's 1984 presents a fictional society under constant surveillance and totalitarian control.
Together the works examine mechanisms of state power, repression, and individual resistance in the twentieth century.
